Philip Heying Exhibit: A Survey of Elemental Gratitude

In late 2019, photographer and artist Philip Heying moved to the town of Matfield Green (population 49) in the center of the Flint Hills tallgrass prairie, to pursue a long-term project exploring the potent complexities of the culture and essential prairie environment there. In April of 2022 he was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship for this project.

Invited to Life, Portraits from BA Van Sise

Invited to Life is a series of portraits and short stories created in four years traveling across the United States to document the inspirational but complex lives of more than 150 American Holocaust survivors. Highlighting the diversity of these subjects and their unique experiences, the work examines the many ways large and small the world has been remapped by the hopeful roads survivors have made in overcoming their trauma to create a new and better future in their pivot to American life.

Experience a collection of Kansas City author Evan Connell books, many of them signed, and materials related to the movie Mrs. and Mrs. Bridge. This showcase will be on display in the Missouri Valley room throughout the book festival.
